Antiques Market: Puces de la Cité
This lively market is a hub for over 100 antique dealers, who bring their wares from all over France to the Place de la Cathedrale in Limoges on every second Sunday of the month. Perusing the various beds, chairs, tables, objets d'art, lights, records, books and sundry odds and ends is a gentle way to spend the afternoon and may even turn up a gem or two.

MAY JUNE |
Saint Loup Fair (22nd May 2007)
This lively fair takes over the centre of Limoges for a day in May in a tradition dating back our centuries. It is always held close to Saint Loup's feast day (20 May).
The streets are lined with stallholders, who sell delicious Limousin food products like sausages and pâté as well as wine, clothes and other specialities from elsewhere in France. It starts at 9.00am and continues through to 7.00pm.
The fair dates back to 1566, when the town was granted a market licence by Charles IX.

The Fête de la Musique is an unmissable summer bonanza. Professional and amateur musicians in Limoges come together for a varied programme incorporating rock, pop, classical, folk and dance music.
Urbaka Street Festival (June 28th to July 1st 2007)
The Urbaka is an international festival of street arts in Limoges. For four days, over 10,000 spectators enjoy shows in the town's squares and streets. The festival is presented by the Christi Urbaka association, an international research centre for image theatre.

Limoges' bridge festival (Fête du Pont) (June 16th to 18th 2007)
Every year, at the end of June, Limoges' bridge festival (Fête du Pont) celebrates the feast of Saint John on the banks of the Vienne river, between the Saint-Martial and Saint-Etienne bridges. This popular family event includes a funfair, village dance, fireworks, sports events a flea market and more.

The playwright Jean Giraudoux was born in Bellac and the festival perpetuates his memory and work. Modern and classic plays are produced each summer season together with jazz concerts and children’s theatre.

Tour de France (July 7th to 29th July 2007)
Running from Saturday July 7th to Sunday July 29th 2007, the 94th Tour de France will be made up of a prologue and 20 stages and will cover a total distance of 3,600 kilometres. On Friday 27th, the 18th stage, the race is from Cahors to Angouleme (210kms) and on Saturday 28th, the 19th stage, Cognac to Angouleme (55kms).

Every July, it hosts the National Dressage Competition, a three-day extravaganza.

Fast Car Rally through Lascoux (July 7th)
Each year a rally car event is organised by our local Town Hall at Châteauponsac. The route covers many of the small hamlets in our local area, including Lascoux. At about 11.00am officials arrive with their various flags and all the roads are closed off. Its a great opportunity for the residents to take the day off and enjoy the excitment of the rally as the cars thunder through Lascoux !

Tour du Limousin Bike Race (August 15th to 18th for 2006) On the 15th august competitors will ride out from Limoges to Aubusson in the Creuse, with the initial 152.9km stretch passing through Bessines (8 kms from La Maison Rose). The final day heading home from Gueret via Chateauponsac (3 kms from La Maison Rose) and Nieul. Four days, four routes and more than 700kms to cover. |

The festival of the Francophonies was created over ten years ago by the director Pierre Debauche and has developed into a annual two-week confrontation of French-speaking theatre companies from around the globe. (French site)

Frairie des Petits Ventres (Oct 19th 2007)
This ancient food fair, dating back to 930AD, sees the butchers of Limoges showing off their speciality meats at a special street market in the Rue de la Boucherie (Butcher Street).
Each stall sells a different specialty, including delicious tripe products (such as fraises du veau), boudin blanc or noir sausages and foie gras. In the evening, a folk music group creates a party atmosphere.

Halloween in Limoges
Since 1996, the town of Limoges has gone all out celebrating the American-imported festival of Halloween. Around 30,000 people come into the city to watch a street parade of ghosts, ghouls and goblins carrying candlelit pumpkins.
Lots of people dress up (even if they're not in the parade) and tour the many bars, cafes and restaurants, which hold special Halloween parties. Witchy stews and ghostly cocktails are the order of the day!
The route changes every year, but takes place in the town centre - please call the tourist office for details.

Funfair: Fête Foraine d'Hiver (16th dec 2007 to Jan 8th 2008)
For three weeks over the Christmas period, the Champ de Juillet in Limoges throbs to the beat of the merry-go-round, dodgem cars and big wheel. The funfair has come to town!
