Oradour sur Glane, Near Limoges
In June 1944 Oradour-sur-Glane was destroyed by a German SS Panzer division, it has been left untouched as a memorial to the 642 men, women and children massacred there. Both sites are very good, the official site giving a complete history including photographs of the village before and after 1944.

Châlus
The Château at Châlus is engraved in British history as the place where Richard I (Richard the Lionheart) met his death during the siege of the château in 1199. The château consists of the first main building (XI-XII and XIII centuries). Second main building (XVII century) and the cylindrical dungeon (XII century).

Le Dorat
Is a must to visit, it has one of the largest, most complete and curious Romanesque edifices in France; the XI-XII century collegiate of Saint-pierre. Guided visits take you back in time through ancient alleys and squares, past XVI-XVII century buildings, the monumental XIX century fountain, the terraced gardens along the ramparts and the view over the valley of the Courtoison.

Guy-Lussac Museum, St Léonard de Noblat
Reproduces a typical 19th Century laboratory and charts the life of the famous 19th Century scientist, Guy-Lussac.

Musée René Bauberot, Châteauponsac
Situated in a former Benedictine monastery, eighteen rooms reproduce interior scenes inside a mill, a farmhouse and the workshops of various traders and country craftsmen, evoking the past and traditional way of life in the Limousin. Only 5 minutes from La Maison Rose.

Château de Rochechouart and Museum of Contemporary Art (Musée Departmental d’Art Contemporain Rochechouart)
The 15th Century châteaux is built on the edge of a 20 km crater formed by a meteorite 160 million years ago, perched dramatically on a rocky outcrop. Most of the castle dates from the 15th century, the gatehouse and keep were built in the 13th century. Within the walls of the castle, a museum of contemporary art exhibits pieces from the arte povere and land art movements as well as work by Raoul Haussmann, one of the founders of Dada. |

Espace Paul Rebeyrolle, Eymoutiers
Eymoutiers suffered greatly during successive invasions during the Middle Ages, during the French Revolution and during the Second World War. The traces of such struggles are visible in the stones of the buildings and also in the art of locally-born Paul Rebeyrolle whose outsized anguished paintings are displayed in the gallery. |

The Castle of Bonneval
Located at the village Coussac-Bonneval is the Castle of Bonneval. Built in the 10th century this fortress has remained with the Bonneval family for all but three years of its history.
